Interview

Part 1.

I knew I wanted to be screenwriter........

A. W knew we wanted to be a screenwriter when........ all the world started explaining itself to us in dialogue.

We'll know we've succeeded........

when our work is on the big screen.

My inspiration to write RAGS.....

came out of our zany conversations over lunch while our kids were in school.

Part 2.

FilmMakers Magazine: What inspired you to write?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble: Talking about anything but our children.

FilmMakers Magazine: How did you prepare yourselves to write your first script?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble: Three martinis. Oh, and an outline.

FilmMakers Magazine: Is this your first script and how long did it take you to complete?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble: It’s our first script and it went fast - several months, or so.

FilmMakers Magazine: Do you have a set routine, place and time management for writing?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble: Because we live in different time zones and write over the internet, we hold to a strict schedule of four days/week, for as long as it takes for each project.

FilmMakers Magazine: Do you believe screenplay contests are important for aspiring screenwriters and why?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble: The feedback is immensely valuable and pushes us to improve our writing. Naturally, our 2nd Place Award also enhances our credentials.
.

FilmMakers Magazine: What influenced you to enter the FilmMakers International Screenwriting Awards / Screenplay Contest?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble: We heard that Filmmakers is one of the best venues for new writers.

FilmMakers Magazine: What script would you urge aspiring writers to read and why?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble: Any successful genre-related script they can get their hands on will be a great learning tool.

FilmMakers Magazine: Beside screenwriting what are you passionate about and why?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble: We are passionate about our husbands who put up with us and finance our efforts. We also love animals, sports, all media and food. Oh, yeah, and our kids.

FilmMakers Magazine: Who is your favorite Screenwriter and Why?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble: Frank Darabont is Elena’s because he writes the stuff that matters.  Woody Allen is Alice’s because of his ability to write life with all its kinks.

FilmMakers Magazine: Name the director you would love to work with and why?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble: We would both love to work with Mel Brooks because of his genius.

FilmMakers Magazine: Name the actor you would love to work with and why?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble:
Alice would love to work with Kevin Kline at any age.  Elena would love to work with the great Meryl Streep.

FilmMakers Magazine: Any tips and things learned along the way to pass on to others?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble:
Read The Screenwriter’s Bible by David Trottier. Listen to everyone’s opinions, but don’t feel obliged to embrace them.
Never give up. The program Join.me, is an amazing tool if partners are long-distance. Final Draft Pro is very helpful.

FilmMakers Magazine: What's next for you?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble: We’re marketing our Diamond Place win for RAGS, and our TV series, BAD NEWS, INC.
Elena has received industry interest in her TV pilot, inspired by THE TWO SISTERS’ CAFÉ.
Alice has received industry interest in her TV drama, PRISON DOC.

FilmMakers Magazine: Where will you be five years from now?

Elena Yates Eulo & Alice Marlis Noble: Where we are is less important than what we’ll be doing, and that will be writing.
